“Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.” Genesis 45:4-5
In Genesis 45:4-5, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers after many years of hardship and separation. He could have easily held onto anger and resentment for the way they treated him, but instead, he chose forgiveness. Joseph understood that his past experiences, including their betrayal, were part of a bigger plan. By letting go of those past offenses, he was able to embrace his role in saving his family during a time of famine.
When we forgive, we free ourselves from the burdens of the past, allowing us to move forward and positively impact our loved ones. Holding onto past hurts can weigh you down and prevent you from making a difference in your family. Just like Joseph, we need to overcome our grievances to create a healthier environment for ourselves and those around us. When you choose to forgive, you not only heal yourself but also pave the way for stronger relationships. Remember, letting go of the past opens the door to new beginnings.
