Proverbs 13
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs 13:20
Godly company shapes our character, strengthens our walk, and protects our destiny. Scripture is clear that the people we allow close to us influence the direction of our lives. Psalm 1 shows this vividly: the blessed person does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, stand in the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers. Instead, he delights in the law of the Lord and grows like a fruitful tree. Wise, godly companions help us stay rooted in God’s Word, encourage us when we are weak, and challenge us to grow. Walking with the wise is not just about avoiding trouble — it is about positioning ourselves for spiritual growth, clarity, and blessing.
Ungodly company, however, slowly pulls us away from God’s purpose. Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Bad company corrupts good character.” The danger is subtle: ungodly influence doesn’t destroy us overnight; it erodes our convictions, weakens our discipline, and blinds us to God’s goodness. When we surround ourselves with people who mock holiness, celebrate sin, or resist God’s truth, we begin to lose sensitivity to the Spirit. Harm follows not because God abandons us, but because we walk away from His wisdom. Choosing godly company is choosing life, protection, and spiritual strength. Choosing ungodly company is choosing confusion, compromise, and unnecessary pain. Today, guard your circle — your destiny depends on it.
