“How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—”Proverbs 6:9-10
This passage from Proverbs reminds us and touches the heart of a trap many of us fall into: the comfort of "just a little more rest." It is easy to confuse waiting on God with simply being idle, but scripture makes it clear that faith and action are meant to walk hand in hand. God explicitly promises to bless the work of our hands—not our inactivity. When we avoid our responsibilities, we miss out on the very avenues through which God wants to pour out His provision and favor. While rest is a holy, restorative gift when used correctly, letting sleep and comfort rule our days quickly turns a blessing into a thief of our potential and purpose.
There is a spiritual truth in realizing that we cannot solve through prayer what God has called us to solve through hard work. Prayer is our lifeline for guidance, strength, and alignment with His will, but it was never intended to be an excuse for laziness or a cosmic shortcut around diligence. When we choose to get up, shake off the slumber, and put our hands to work, we honor the gifts God has given us and position ourselves to receive the breakthrough that only comes through disciplined, faithful effort.
